Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is situated near Pandharkawada in Yavatmal district of Vidharbh, Maharashtra. This less known place is home to appx.182 species of birds, nilgai, bears, peacocks, sambar and tigers and enclose the area of 148.63 sq.km.

History:
This safari park has been formed around 5 years ago. It got it's name from godess Tipai, the temple of which is situated in the jungle. Many years ago there was village called Tipeshwar and due to plauge, people left the village and shifted to other locations. You will still find road in the jungle leading to the village though it is now coverd in grass.

The area is completely basalt area that is constructed by the blast of lava centuries ago. It is alo known as Green Oasis located in Southern Maharashtra.

How to reach?

There are two gates for entry:
Sunna gate
Mathni gate

Nearest airport is Nagpur which is around at 174.2 km from Tipeshwar.

Nearest railway station is Adilabad (45.3km). If you are taking this route, Sunna gate is the nearer gate.

If you are travelling via Yavatmal, Mathni gate is nearner one.

It is best to take your own or rental vehicle from near by cities as it is hard to find transport in the area.

What to expect:
The weather is pleasent. Temperature is lower than the city temperature. If you are visiting during winters, carry sweaters, caps, gloves specially for morning safari.

You will see different species of birds, animals, peacocks. I visited this place recently (Jan 2021) and booked afternoon safari. There is hard to find tigers as these are only 8 and in afternoon no one prefers to come out from the woods.

There is an old school in the jungle, where you can take a break and have your snacks.

Best time to visit:
Summers are usually best time to visit to any wildlife sanctuaries. But if you can't tolerate heat (as summer temperature can go above 45 degree in Vidharbh) you can visit this place between October to February. In rainy season, the safari is closed due to heavy railfall.
